Well-known experts on trauma agree that learning to be present in our bodies is crucial for recovery from all kinds of historic trauma. In this class, Will Fudeman, LAc.,LCSW reviews research findings on what empowers healing from trauma, provides basic guidelines for effective healing relationships with trauma victims, and leads participants in qigong practices to bring us into our bodies. Learn how acupuncture can provide an ideal complement to psychotherapy for victims of all sorts of trauma.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Identify various forms of Trauma from warfare, physical and sexual abuse, natural disasters, automobile accidents, and childhood neglect.

2. Understand the limitations of talk therapy in healing trauma (based on modern neuroscience), and the role acupuncture and qigong practice can play to empower people suffering from PTSD to heal from trauma.

3. Learn guidelines for establishing a healing relationship with trauma victims, including asking permission to touch, asking the client to voice any discomfort immediately, and setting a tone of genuine presence, safety and empowerment for the client.

4. Learn how simple qigong practices can be effective for selfregulation of mood, allowing trauma victims to decrease flashbacks, as they increase their ability to be present in their bodies.
