Treatments and techniques to reduce pain, facilitate dilation, increase strength and regularity of contractions, and help the patient to be relaxed and present for the miracle of birth that is unfolding.

 

•Specific needling and tui na hand techniques will be introduced, as well as palpation skills for location of the fetus.

 

•Recognize the course of childbirth, as it is measured in the hospital (contraction monitor readings, cervical dilation, effacement, descent, etc) and as it manifests in home birth.

 

•Western interventions & how to work with them in integrative settings in hospitals or birthing centers as well as home births.

 

Claudia Citkovitz, L.Ac. is Acupuncture Coordinator at Lutheran Medical Center where she oversees Acupuncture in Labor and Delivery and supervises acupuncture internships. She has taught at Mercy, Touro, and TriState Colleges, and serves on the Advisory Board at TriState. She has worked in the Obstetrics & Gynecology Rotation at University of Chicago School of Medicine, and has authored, presented research, and conducted and consulted for clinical trials related to Labor and Delivery for Society for Acupuncture Research, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Lutheran Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and University of North Carolina, among others.
